SFC Awarded Grant Towards River Enhancements

Wetlands & Community Days Project Programme

Back in mid July, notification came to the club from The Wild Trout Trust via The Hampshire & Isle Of Wight Trust inviting applications for grants of up to £5000 on the Wetlands & Community Days Project Programme sponsored by Thames Water. The committee had gathered for its usual monthly meeting and this application offer was raised by the club Treasurer. It was decided to apply for the grant to see if any funding could be obtained towards spawning and nursery areas on the Loddon & Blackwater rivers as well as some remedial bank work to remove old levee's.

The club are pleased to announce that with a great effort from the Treasurer, the application has been successful and that a sum of £4000 has been awarded towards the river enhancements. We hope, conditions permitting along the rivers, to undertake this work in late autumn once the plans have been finalised along with any relevant EA consents that need to be in place.

The club would like to extend its thanks to The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Trust for alerting us to this oppertunity in the first instance, Secondly, to The Wild Trout Trust and the judging panel who decided on choosing the clubs application and to Thames Water for making the funds available to allow these types of projects to go ahead.

The club looks forward to improving the stretches of river and very much hopes that not just the fish recruitment, but everything environmentally, will benefit from our efforts.
