Decoy Pond Fishing From Wednesday 13th May 2020

Following the government’s announcement on Sunday evening, the Angling Trust have confirmed that fishing may recommence from Wednesday 13th May (Rivers remain closed until 16th June). The current restrictions imposed by the UK Government now recognizes fishing as one of the permitted forms of exercise. Swallowfield Fishing Club will abide by the Angling Trusts graduated return to fishing publication “When We Fish Again”. Further details of the document can be found at

As you may know Decoy Pond is situated in the grounds of Swallowfield House, which is home to a number of residents who are vulnerable at this time; it is therefore imperative that club member follow the rules which have been negotiated with Swallowfield House and are stated below.

1. Only 12 members are able to fish Decoy pond at any one time – To avoid disappointment when arriving at the pond, members are asked to book their fishing session with David Randall (membership secretary) 07941794154. If there is high demand you may be restricted to either a morning or an afternoon session.

2. There is no parking at Swallowfield House, this is to shield the residence from Covid-19.

3. Members must park in Swallowfield village – At the time of writing Swallowfield village hall car park is closed. Therefore, members should park responsibly in the village being mindful of residents and bearing in mind that buses and farm machinery use the roads.

4. Members are not allowed to walk through the grounds of Swallowfield House – The Decoy Pond can be accessed by walking over Pits Bridge and following the main drive to the house. At the top of the drive, just before the cattle grid and buildings turn left through a horse gate. Follow the track keeping the hedge to your right. Turn right at the end of the hedge and walk across the field where you can gain access to the top of Decoy pond through a horse gate. This is a 1.2KM walk across fields, please wear appropriate footwear. (please see map below)

5. All anglers should have an up to date 2019/20 membership card which they should produce when asked - please ensure your rod license is current. New members may fish from June 16th 2020.

6. When fishing please respect social distancing rules as set out by the government and the Angling Trust Please leave a swim in between anglers if this is necessary to maintain appropriate distance.

7. One angler per swim (unless from same household), fishing equipment is not to be shared.

8. When leaving please follow the same route used to access Decoy Pond.

9. All other club rules to Decoy Pond apply.

10. Members who do not follow these rules jeopardize the club’s relationship with Swallowfield House and will be asked to leave the venue.
